Wordpress Discussion Settings
- The Discussion Settings Screen allows us to set the options in terms of discussion with users.
- It is the interaction between the blogger and visitor.
- It is the admin who decides if comments are allowed, if pingbacks and trackbacks are allowable.
Following are the simple steps to discussion settings in WordPress.

- In order to access the discussion settings just click Settings -> Discussion options.
Discussion Settings - Default Settings :

- Default article settings is the default settings for all the new pages we create or new posts. This contains three more settings.
- Attempt to notify any blogs linked to from the article - If we check this box, WordPress will send out a ping to a site or article ,we have linked to in your post.
- Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks).
- Allow people to post comments on new articles - Check this box if we wish to allow comments to our posts or blog.
Discussion Settings - Other Common settings :

- Comment author must fill out name and e-mail - this checkbox is to avoid spammers from posting in our page.
- Users must be registered and logged in to comment - If this checkbox is checked, only registered people can post comments in our post.
- Automatically close comments on articles older than [X] days – This checkbox options will help us to accept comments in particular time as we wish.
- Enable threaded (nested) comments [X] levels deep - This checkbox is used to allow visitors to post comments and get a reply from others.
- Break comments into pages with top level comments per page and the page displayed by default - If our pages are getting a lot of comments then we can split them into different pages by checking this box.
- Comments should be displayed with the comments at the top of each page - We sort the comments in ascending and descending order.
Discussion Settings - Email & Comment Option :

- Anyone posts a comment: When us check into this box the author gets an email for every single comment that is posted.
- A comment is held for moderation: This is used in case we do not want our comment to be updated before it's moderated by the administrator. These settings provide you even more control over the instances of when and how comments are posted.
- An administrator must always approve the comment : This check box allows only selected comments to be visible in your post.
- Comment author must have a previously approved comment : Check the box to insure comments are only posted if the comment author's email address matches the address of a previously approved comment.

- Comment moderation help us to allow only specific type of links to posted in our post. Unwanted and spam links can be avoided using this option.
Discussion Settings - Comment Blacklist

- We can give our own words which we do not want our visitors to enter into the comments, URL, email etc; later it would be easy to filter the comments.
Discussion Settings - Avatar
- Avatars is a icon which appears next to our user name

- Click this check box to display avatar and hide it from the screen
Discussion Settings - Maximum Rating

- This setting controls (or limits) the 'highest' level or rating of avatar (which is the Unique Avatars),we allow to be displayed
- G — Suitable for all audiences
- PG — Possibly offensive, usually for audiences 13 and above
- R — Intended for adult audiences above 17
- X — Even more mature than above.

- For users without a custom avatar of their own, we can either display a generic logo or a generated one based on their e-mail address.
