- A transformer is done by the principles of electromagnetic induction.
- It is an electrical device.
- Without changing its frequency it transfers electrical energy from one electric circuit to another.
- The energy transfer usually takes place with a change of voltage and current. Transformers either increases or decreases AC voltage.

Step Down Transformer
- The Step Down Transformer steps down the input voltage i.e. the secondary voltage is less than the primary voltage.
- It is designed to reduce the voltage from the primary winding to the secondary winding. This kind of transformer “steps down” the voltage applied to it.
