Damodar Valley Corporation
- DVC stands for Damodar Valley Corporation.
- It's a government organization under the Ministry of Power, Govt. of India.
- It operates power stations within the Damodar River areas in Jharkhand and West Bengal states of India.
- It operates both hydel and thermal power stations. It's headquartered in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. As of 2015, Mr. Andrew WK Langstieh is that the chairman of DVC.

Brief History
- DVC was the result of varied attempts made over the entire century to regulate the floods arising from the Damodar River within the valley.
- The river spreads over an area of 25,000 sq.kms that covers the states of Jharkhand and West Bengal.
- After the 1943 flood, the govt of Bengal appointed a board of Enquiry titled Damodar Flood Enquiry Committee.
- This committee suggested the establishment of an authority almost like the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) within the USA.
- It also recommended the construction of dams and storage reservoir, and multipurpose development within the valley area. Later, Govt. Of India commissioned the Central Technical Power Board.
- To review the proposal and appointed a senior engineer Mr. W L Voorduin of the TVA to review the Damodar River associated with the great development of the valley. Mr. Voorduin submitted his Preliminary Memorandum on the unified Development of the Damodar River.
- His memorandum suggested developing a multipurpose found out to realize control, navigation, irrigation, power generation within the Damodar Valley.
- In April 1947, the Governments of Central, West Bengal and Bihar were agreed to implement the scheme and in March 1948, the Central Legislature passed the Damodar Valley Corporation Act (Act No. XIV of 1948).
- Consistent with this act, the central government, and therefore the governments of West Bengal and Bihar (now Jharkhand) are required to participate jointly for the aim of developing the Damodar Valley Corporation.
- Later, DVC was established on 7th July 1948. It had been the first multipurpose river valley project of independent India.
